Bodywork, Alternative Health, and Martial Arts
Background:
I have an abiding interest in bodywork and the martial arts. I am a licensed massage therapist in Washington state. Beyond my basic training in Swedish massage, I've taken classes in shiatsu, reflexology, sotai, Lomi Lomi, and Rosen method bodywork. In the broader arena of movement disciplines, I've taken classes or workshops in the Alexander method, Awareness Through Movement (Feldenkrais), evolutionary movement, Authentic Movement, and Reiki (among others).
My martial arts training starts in sports: I wrestled for six years, in junior high and high school. Since then, I've taken two years of tae kwon do and two years of wing chun kung fu. I currenty train in Shintaido (primarily bojutsu) and tai chi. I've got seven years of Shintaido training and about ten years of tai chi. That's where my most extensive training is. I started with the Yang style long form, then moved to Cheng Man Ch'ing's short form. I currently study Chen style tai chi. I've taken workshops with Fong Ha (in Yiquan), Mike Sigman (internal strength principles), Chen Xiao Wong (silk reeling), James McNeil (hsing-i), Zhang Xuexin (silk reeling), Chen Xiao Xing (sillk reeling), H. F. Ito (introduction to Wu style), Ken Van Sickle (tai chi sword), and others.
